Proxy servers are servers that stand between, for example, a client PCs and world wide network. When the client PC sends a request to the distant server, the proxy server receives the request first and tries to comply with it. If the proxy server can’t complete the request it forwards this request to the original server. As the proxy server fulfills request, the result is stored in its cache. So, the next time a client sends the same request, the result is taken from the proxy server’s cache. Proxy servers are often used for high traffic networks to reduce response time. Proxy servers can also be used for content filtering. Companies can limit their employees to access certain web sites.

They can also help you to bypass network restrictions and grant access to blocked sites, that’s why sometimes they’ve called proxy unblockers.
